All Children aren't just born different, they also have different lives and they learn different things.

Some children have difficulty learning , perhaps because of physical problems with for example, hearing or seeing. You may already know that your child's development is likely to be slower than normal or you may be worried about your childs progress. 

We can offer you regular developmental reviews but if you are concerned don't wait for a check up speak to Dr Nicholl or the nurse before.

Development checks are recommended at:-

8 weeks

9-10 months

18 months

3-4 1/2 years

Height and Weight measurements

Your childs height and weight  are a very good guide to general progress and development. You can have your baby regularly weighed at the clinic either by Dr Nicholl at a routine appointment or during a Well Baby Clinic Appointment.

Older children should be weighed and measured as part of other health checks either at nursery or school. Babies vary in how much they put weight on but usually weight gain is quickest in the first six months to nine months, and then it slows down.

• Most babies double their  birth weight by 4-5 months.
• Most babies treble their birth weight by a year.
